Own Up To Your Mistakes
< Back To Articles
It happens to everyone in business from time to time. Life sometimes gets too busy and things fall through the cracks and mistakes happen.
So how can you recover from a mistake made with a client? Depending on the ground work you laid with your client throughout the time you have been working together, you can recover quite well if you handle it appropriately.
Everyone is human. Your client understands that there are other fish in the sea that you're working with, however if when you were interacting with them they knew your complete attention and focus was on their project they will have gained a respect for you and how you run your business.
If a mistake happens with a client project, you need to assess the situation, figure out what went wrong, put processes in place so that this kind of mistake doesn't happen again, then contact the client by phone. First apologize for the issue and inform them of the steps you have taken to rectify the situation, explain the policy in place to ensure that this issue is avoided in the future and thank them for their understanding.
Hopefully you don’t have to make this kind of call very often but you have to acknowledge that sometimes things happen that are unavoidable and if you have clients with whom you have built a trusting relationship you are in a much better position to recover from the mistake that happened.
